First steps

In the event of a bereavement, please contact the United Synagogue Burial Society first on 020 8950 7767 or, if they are closed, on 07957 119 119. During normal office hours, you may also reach out to the shul office for assistance (see details below).

You will need to obtain a death certificate stating the cause of death and present it to the Registrar for Births and Deaths in the area where the death occurred.

At CNSS, we can assist you during the shiva (mourning period) and arranging for prayers in the shiva house. We provide shiva chairs, prayer books, and a candle. Our Shul also has a Chevra Kadisha (a sacred burial society responsible for the proper preparation and burial of deceased members) to support you during this time.

Yahrzeit

We will contact you on the anniversary of your relative’s death to ensure that a yahrzeit prayer is said on the Shabbat before.

Additionally, our Shul features a beautiful memorial board where plaques can be placed to honour departed family members.

Shared Memories Lounge

Finally, the Shul has a Shared Memories Lounge, which meets on alternate Monday evenings. Please contact suzanne1307@hotmail.co.uk if you wish to join.

For further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us via the Shul Office on 020 8886 8225 or email office@cnss.co.uk. We are here to support you during this difficult time.
